The Cold Process Recipe Design Course is ideal if you're:

Curriculum and Highlights:

  • Morning Session-2 Hours
  1. Show and Tell: You’ll select a recipe from the options provided by the teacher and make the soap entirely on your own. The teacher will observe your process, offering guidance and suggestions to refine your technique or explore alternative approaches for even better results.
  2. Oils & Additives: Learn about commonly used carrier oils, fatty acids, essential oils, and soap colorants. Advices provided about supply shopping tips.
  • Lunch Break - Feel Free to Explore the great eats and diners in Dunedin!
  • Afternoon Session-4-5 hours
  1. Designing Soap Recipes: Get tips on creating soap formulas for different needs, including bath soap, facial soap, shampoo bars, baby soap, pet soap, kitchen soap...etc. 
  2. Soap Calculation Practice: Hands-on practice calculating ingredient amounts based on batch sizes using provided formulas.
  3. Recipe Design Exercise: Create five unique soap recipes, then review and refine them with guidance.
  4. Soap Making Session: Choose one of the new recipes you design in-class and make a batch of soap during class.
  5. Bonus Session: Slow tracing recipe design tips for artisan soap swirling. Choose 1 slow tracing recipe provided and make the artisan swirled soap.

Class Level: Advanced. If you have never made soap before, consider attending the Cold Process Soap Making 101 before this course. Participants are required to have prior experience with cold process soap making. This foundational knowledge will enable you to fully benefit from the advanced concepts covered in the workshop.

Duration: 6 hours (varies by the real progress in-class)

What you'll make and take:

  • 3 Free Soap Molds are included. (Limited time offer!)
  • 3 Batches in total: 2 Batches of Natural CP Soap and 1 Batch of Artisan CP swirled Soap. About 6-7 pound in total, which is about 30-33 bars if cut 1-inch thick.
  • Full Instruction Handout and Worksheets.
  • More than 20 soaps recipes, including the 5 recipes you design in-class.
  • A certificate of completion.

What to bring:

  • A face mask (required for handing the caustic materials for about 10-15 minutes)
  • Thick towels for wrapping and keeping the soap insulated on your way home
  • We will provide the disposable apron, gloves and goggles, but feel free to bring yours.

What you need to know about the workshop/ class:

  • We will be working with a chemical called "Sodium hydroxide (lye) " (Lye is used in the saponification process to turn oil into soap - no sodium hydroxide remains in the finished product after curing.) Please be extra careful while handling LYE in class.
  • THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ADULTS ONLY and it requires your full attention while making the cold process soap. 
  • No pets or kids allowed in the workshop for safety's sake.  
  • If you're a high school student and would like to attend, you'd need to provide approval by your parent or guardian.
  • No walk-ins or sit-ins will be allowed for safety's sake.

Safety Rules and Regulations for the Store and Workshop - Mandatory for Everyone's Protection. Any violation may result in dismissal:

  • If you are unwell, please stay home and notify us to reschedule your workshop.
  • It is strongly recommended that individuals who have not received the Covid-19 vaccination wear a FACE MASK throughout the workshop. Please bring your own mask, or you can purchase one from the workshop. (We no longer provide free face masks due to shortages and increased costs. Thank you for your understanding.) If you are unable to wear a face mask for any reason, please reconsider signing up for the workshop.
  • Wear an apron, gloves, and eye protection (glasses or safety goggles) while making soaps. We will provide these items, or you may bring your own.
  • Thoroughly wash your hands with soap before and after the workshop.
  • Prohibited items include weapons, drugs, and alcohol within the store and workshop premises.

Registration and Cancellation Policy (Please read carefully):

  • To receive a refund, a cancellation notice must be sent at least 2 business days before the scheduled class.
  • Starting from April 11th, 2023, a cancellation fee of 3.5% of the total amount paid will be deducted from any refund issued.
  • Cancellations made within 2 business days before the class will not receive a refund but will be issued a store credit valid for attending a future workshop within 6 months.
  • Cancellations made within 24 hours of the workshop or no-shows will not receive any refund or credit.
  • No refund or credit will be issued if you are dismissed for breaking our classroom safety rules.
  • In the event that the workshop cannot be conducted as scheduled, you may choose to transfer to another date or receive a full refund.

Accident Waiver and Release of Liability:

  • By participating in this activity or event, I assume all risks involved. For parents registering children under 18 years of age, I give my consent for their participation.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, any risks arising from negligence or carelessness on the part of the individuals or entities involved, as well as risks associated with dangerous products, materials, or defective equipment or property under their ownership, maintenance, or control, or due to their potential liability without fault.
