SL02- Artisan Cold Process Soap | The Santa Soap Workshop
This workshop is one of our Holiday Special Program. It's great for personal use and gifting.
In this "The Santa" Cold Process Soap Making Class that combines soap layering, Embedding and piping techniques. Here’s what you can learn from such a class:
1. Santa-Themed Soap Design
Learn how to design a soap inspired by the face of Santa Claus, including elements like color, texture, and a combination of Layered, Embedded and piped designs. This will help you bring the whimsical nature of the character to life in your soap.
2. Embedding Designs in Soap
- Creating Soap Embeds: You’ll learn how to create small soap embeds, such as tiny Santa eyes and Nose, and embed them within the soap or place them on top for added decoration.
- Embedding Layer Techniques: The class may cover how to embed these designs between layers of soap, ensuring they stay visible and secure.
3. Piping Techniques
You’ll begin by learning basic piping techniques which can be used to decorate your soap bars.
4. Coloring Techniques
- Santa’s Red and White: Learn how to mix and create vibrant red for Santa’s suit and crisp white for his beard and accents. You’ll explore how to achieve these colors using natural colorants like clays and micas or synthetic colorants.
- Layering Colors: You’ll also learn techniques to layer different colors in the soap batter, ensuring that the red, white, and any other holiday colors don’t bleed or muddy together.
5. Fragrance Blending
The class will cover how to create fragrance blends that evoke the holiday spirit, using scents like peppermint, pine, or cinnamon. You’ll also learn how to balance fragrance oils to avoid issues like fragrance acceleration, which could affect your ability to pipe or stamp the soap properly.

Knowledge required: prior Cold Process Soap Making experience is strongly recommended. If you have never made cold process soap before, please take E01 Cold Process Soap 101 or any Beginner level cold process workshops.
What you'll make and take:
- A loaf of soap (over 2 lb) you make in-class, which is about 9-10 bars if cutting 1-inch thick pieces.
- A handout with recipe and instruction
What to bring:
- A face mask (required for handing the caustic materials for about 10-15 minutes)
- A thick towel for wrapping and keeping the soap insulated on your way home
- We will provide the disposable apron, gloves and goggles, but feel free to bring yours.
What you need to know about the workshop/ class:
- We will be working with a chemical called "Sodium hydroxide (lye) " (Lye is used in the saponification process to turn oil into soap - no sodium hydroxide remains in the finished product after curing.) Please be extra careful while handling LYE in class.
- THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ADULTS ONLY and it requires your full attention while making the cold process soap.
- No pets or kids allowed in the workshop for safety's sake.
- If you're a high school student and would like to attend, you'd need to provide approval by your parent or guardian.
- No walk-ins or sit-ins will be allowed for safety's sake.
Safety Rules and Regulations for the Store and Workshop - Mandatory for Everyone's Protection. Any violation may result in dismissal.
- If you are unwell, please stay home and notify us to reschedule your workshop.
- It is strongly recommended that individuals who have not received the Covid-19 vaccination wear a FACE MASK throughout the workshop. Please bring your own mask, or you can purchase one from the workshop. (We no longer provide free face masks due to shortages and increased costs. Thank you for your understanding.) If you are unable to wear a face mask for any reason, please reconsider signing up for the workshop.
- Wear an apron, gloves, and eye protection (glasses or safety goggles) while making soaps. We will provide these items, or you may bring your own.
- Thoroughly wash your hands with soap before and after the workshop.
- Prohibited items include weapons, drugs, and alcohol within the store and workshop premises.
Registration and Cancellation Policy (Please read carefully):
- To receive a refund, a cancellation notice must be sent at least 2 business days before the scheduled class.
- Starting from April 11th, 2023, a cancellation fee of 3.5% of the total amount paid will be deducted from any refund issued.
- Cancellations made within 2 business days before the class will not receive a refund but will be issued a store credit valid for attending a future workshop within 6 months.
- Cancellations made within 24 hours of the workshop or no-shows will not receive any refund or credit.
- No refund or credit will be issued if you are dismissed for breaking our classroom safety rules.
- In the event that the workshop cannot be conducted as scheduled, you may choose to transfer to another date or receive a full refund.

- By participating in this activity or event, I assume all risks involved. For parents registering children under 18 years of age, I give my consent for their participation.
- This includes, but is not limited to, any risks arising from negligence or carelessness on the part of the individuals or entities involved, as well as risks associated with dangerous products, materials, or defective equipment or property under their ownership, maintenance, or control, or due to their potential liability without fault.
